This charming seafood restaurant offers a warm, inviting atmosphere that feels like a true Florida Keys hideaway—perfect for savoring a relaxed, flavorsome dining experience away from the bustling waterfront spots.

The menu at Islamorada Shrimp Shack reads like a tribute to coastal cuisine, spotlighting shrimp in myriad delightful forms. Whether it’s their signature Shrimp and Grits—sautéed with peppers and onions in a luscious creamy Creole sauce over slow-cooked grits—or the Famous Shrimp Fritters that pack crispy, savory goodness, every bite is steeped in authentic, irresistible flavor. For fans of fried seafood, options like Coconut Shrimp and the Coconut Fried Grouper Sandwich deliver a perfect balance of crunchy texture and tropical sweetness.

Not to be missed are the soft tacos—available with fish, shrimp, or chicken—served on delicate flour tortillas topped with shredded cabbage, fresh pico de gallo, and cheddar-jack cheese, accompanied by black beans and rice. The Shrimp Jambalaya is a hearty dish brimming with andouille sausage, onions, peppers, and celery, simmered in a rich Cajun rice, showcasing the kitchen’s flair for bold, comforting flavors.

Dinner selections such as the Continental Mahi Mahi, panko-encrusted and finished with a vibrant key lime butter sauce enhanced by sautéed tomatoes and parmesan, offer a refined yet approachable seafood experience. Complement these with starters like the smoky Fish Dip or classic Conch Fritters, and you have a meal that perfectly balances traditional Keys fare with inventive twists.

Guests consistently praise the restaurant for its friendly, down-to-earth service and the genuine feel of a family-run gem. As one regular, Kyle Murphy, noted, the shrimp and grits are “amazing, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious,” while the blackened fish plate stood out for its perfect seasoning and cooking. The shrimp and grits were amazing, full of flavor, and absolutely delicious. The blackened fish plate was exceptional as well, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Great food and a must-visit spot while in the area for a quite inside dinner.

Great place. Obvious from staff interaction that a lot of locals go there. Food was terrific and the prices are reasonable. The best place I ate at in Islamorada. Service was exceptional. Seemed like a family place. Would definitely go back.

A great local place! The shack shrimp were delicious, and it wasn't as busy as neighboring restaurants that were on the water. Staff was friendly and everything was really clean.

Always one of our favorites when we are in the Keys. We brought our own Mahi that we caught just hours before. They cooked some of it Contenental style and some Senator style, it was all delicious! Started with a seared Ahi tuna appetizer and a perfect margarita. Everyone we encountered working there were extremely friendly, polite, and in such a good mood, almost like they loved their jobs lol. That really makes a difference. We will be back soon!

Great option in the area. The service was great! Super friendly You can start your meal with a mini portion of freshly beaked banana bread, delicious, with homemade butter. We had the captain plate and a big salad. Finally a big slide of key lime pie! A must try as well. Nice quality in all.

We were on a family vacation and tried the Shrimp Shack after a suggestion from Capt Jake who took us offshore fishing. We took the Mahi we caught to the Shrimp Shack and they prepare the most delicious dishes you will find in the Keys. We actually came back a second night as well. They prepared the fish 7 or 8 different ways for us and each way was phenomenal. Not only was the fish good, the service was excellent. The food arrived quickly and we really felt taken care of…. like family. The restaurant is not crowded so there is no wait time. There was no water view but if you can get past that, you will have the best food around. We tried several other restaurants in the area but none were as good. The photo was just the first visit. The second visit we had the fish prepared completely different. Check out the portion of the menu labeled “Hook and Cook” for all of your options.

Went on a Tuesday night and it was empty. The staff were friendly and quick. So quick she didn’t get us our appetizer. She forgot it completely. We did get our food and I opted for the grouper and it was delicious. My husband had the shrimp and grits and enjoyed it as well. No views though, so not much for ambience. Ice cold air conditioning indoors!

Stopped over in islamorada for the half way point to the keys. This place was close to the hotel and did not disappoint. Mom and pop restaurant. Over head the server saying the cooks also been here for a long time. So sounds like a family business. They dropped of bread and banana bread to start. Nice honey butter. Appetizers was the shrimp fritters. well seasoned and goes well with the fried/ranch. Order shrimp and grits and the jambalaya. Both large portions, we had to take half the plates to go. I will say the shrimp and grits was my favorite dish of this meal. Staff is friendly, quick service, come through.
